Black & White Wow - A Mono Statement Entry
An entry has the potential to be the show-piece of the home, and this space I’m currently working on is exactly that...
My client has a large entry, well, room. The area is generous not just in floorspace but also in volume with a ceiling that towers way up into the second storey of the home. The idea is to work with this vastness to create a sense of power and impact.
To do that, I’ve gone with an elegant, yet high contrast black and white colour scheme to evoke a real sense of wow.
Upon entering through (quite literally) the ginormous front door, you’ll see to the left a large vintage church bench seat which is a family heirloom. We’re upholstering the cushion to black with a white edge piping to freshen it up with a classy, yet timeless edge. It’s then layered with black, white and cream cushions to soften the space and add additional levels of warmth and comfort.
Centre of the room beneath an over-sized brass antique chandelier, we have a centre-piece table set with a single vessel and organic twig foliage. A lovely anchor for your eye to land on as you get acquainted with the space.
Just past that, is a console set against a half wall, which frames the walk-way as you enter the rest of the home. Decor consistent in black and white with pops of brass, steel, ceramic marble and other natural materials bring a high-end , luxurious tone. A balance of clean lines and round edges allow this room to breathe while still feeling both modern and timeless all in one.
Art is restrained yet stylish, and lighting sprinkled throughout by lay of big lamps and elegant sconces give the room a high-end atmosphere.
This entry way will pay dividends over and over again as family and friends enjoy a stunning transitional zone that generates a true sense of arrival the moment you walk through the door.
A well-considered entry sets the tone for the entire home, and this mood aims to strike that perfect balance between impact and refinement.
